Profiles and accounts

Updated

A profile is one advertiser in one marketplace; an advertising account holds campaigns across ad products. This page covers both, the profile types, and which header carries which identifier.

As Amazon publishes it

Every statement on this page restates Amazon's public documentation, linked under Sources.

In short

  • A profile represents an advertiser account in one specific marketplace.
  • The profile id travels in the Amazon-Advertising-API-Scope header.
  • GET /v2/profiles lists the profiles a token can reach, per regional host.
  • An advertising account contains campaigns and data across all ad products.

Profile

  • A profile represents an advertiser account in one specific marketplace.
  • An advertiser who advertises in one marketplace may have a single profile. One who advertises regionally or globally has a separate profile for each marketplace.
  • An advertiser cannot have more than one profile per marketplace.
  • For sponsored ads a profile is an advertiser account in a marketplace; for Amazon DSP it represents an entity in a specific marketplace or region.
  • Reports and all entity-management operations are associated with a single profile. Reaching the same advertiser in another marketplace takes another request with that marketplace's profile id.

Profile id

  • A profile id is the credential that scopes a call to one advertiser in one marketplace.
  • It travels in the Amazon-Advertising-API-Scope header.

Header always required

The header is required even for an advertiser with only one profile; a missing or wrong value answers 401 Unauthorized or 400 Bad Request.

Listing profiles

  • GET /v2/profiles lists the profiles of the advertiser whose permission the access token represents. This call does not need the Amazon-Advertising-API-Scope header.
  • The list contains only the profiles whose marketplace belongs to the region of the host that was called (see Marketplaces and regions).
  • By default the list holds only profiles with permission to view and edit campaigns; the apiProgram and accessLevel query parameters change that.

Example

An advertiser with accounts only in Japan and Singapore gets an empty list from the North American host.

Profile types

The profile's accountInfo.type names the kind of account behind it. Each type value:

  • seller — a seller account. Used with Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display only; Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display also need the account to be enrolled in Brand Registry.
  • vendor — a vendor account. Used with Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display only.
  • agency — an agency account. Used with the DSP and Data Provider APIs only.

Advertising account and account id

The Amazon Ads API v1 uses a unified account model:

  • An advertising account is the primary entity that contains campaigns and data across all ad products.
  • The profile id identifies it for sponsored-ads operations (Amazon-Advertising-API-Scope).
  • The account id identifies it for Amazon DSP and cross-product operations (Amazon-Ads-AccountId).
  • A manager account groups advertising accounts; its id travels in Amazon-Ads-Manager-AccountId for manager-account operations.
  • In request bodies, advertiserAccount.id names the account whose data is read or changed.

Which of the two identity headers a request may carry is covered in API constraints.
